What to Do This Week in NYC (April 8 – April 14)

April is arguably the best time of the year to visit New York City! The winter chill has passed, the flowers are in full bloom, and the tourist crowds are not as overwhelming as they can be in summer and fall. Whether you want to soak up the sun and enjoy balmy breezes in one of the best NYC parks, catch up on your couture shopping, take in a show, or revel in the nightlife, here are some of the best ways to make the most of your trip to NYC.

One of the best ways to celebrate New York this April is showing your love for all the music that came out of the city! Billy Joel is a legendary singer-songwriter and pianist born and raised right by NYC and his music pays tribute to the magic of the city. He is performing monthly shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden and if you’re lucky enough to get tickets to the popular concert on April 12, you can hear a mix of his old classics, new compositions, and inventive covers. Plus, you get the experience of checking out the world famous Madison Square Garden!

NYC Hot Sauce Expo 2019

Do you love BBQ? Especially with an extra kick? Then you might want to hit up the NYC Hot Sauce Expo 2019 at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint. Enjoy hot sauce samples from makers all over the world at the seventh annual edition of this spicy event. It takes place from Saturday, April 13 at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. On top of samples, and beer and BBQ for purchase, there will be spicy food eating competitions as well. There will be food for meat lovers and vegans alike, so come hungry!

Yankee Game

For those who love sports and want a slice of real Americana, get tickets to the Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, April 14 at 7 p.m. These are two of the most fun teams to watch in Major League Baseball and it’s always a treat when they go head to head. Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is full of great seats and you are guaranteed to see fans on both sides go nuts for their favorite team. Plus, it’s a perfect way to spend the evening outside in the warm spring air.

Smorgasburg

Smorgasburg is a massive outdoor foodie festival that takes place every weekend through the spring and summer. Head to East River State Park in Williamsburg on Saturdays to check out the 75 to 100 food vendors that line up to sell delicious treats to hungry visitors. You can find everything from Dutch waffles to pasta dougnuts to tacos to pizza and more! The event is a spin-off from the Brooklyn Flea and once you’ve filled up on food, you can also wander through the crafts and vintage vendors to find clothing, home goods, and more. Plus, you get a fantastic view of Lower Manhattan from the riverside location in Brooklyn.

Maple Fest NYC

Head to the Grand Bazaar NYC on the Upper West Side on Sunday, April 14 to check out the city’s first maple festival. Grand Bazaar is NYC’s largest and most distinctive curated market and you can find one-of-a-kind fashion, crafts, collectibles, and handmade jewelry every weekend. And on this particular Sunday, visitors will find the finest artisanal maple sugar-makers from throughout the Northeast. Enjoy natural, organic, and infused maple syrups, maple candy, maple drinks, waffles with maple syrups — you name it! The festival takes place from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
