Perhaps one of the most well-known parks in the country, Central Park is a must-visit. This gorgeous park space is 843 acres, so you can easily spend a few quality hours here. While there are many paid activities, such as bike rentals, walking and horse carriage tours, ice skating, and movies and plays, the park can easily be enjoyed for free. There is no admission cost, and you’re welcome to sunbathe, walk and explore, or have a picnic lunch. This is the perfect place to be one with nature while in NYC.

There are many places to take free yoga classes in the city. Brooklyn’s Prospect Park holds free yoga classes throughout the summer months. Manhattan’s Hudson River Park also holds free yoga classes and programs during the summertime.

Tour the New York Public Library

If you’re a book-lover or just like history and architecture, the New York Public Library is worth visiting. This library is gorgeous and is one of the largest libraries in the world. If you’re interested in taking a free building tour to learn the history of the library, you can do so Monday through Saturday. The guided tour lasts one hour and is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Explore the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

This impressive 52-acre garden is home to many beautiful plants and flowers. You will find a mix of gardens and conservatory spaces to explore. There are also special exhibits and events to enjoy here. Guests can visit for free on Friday mornings from March through November from 8 a.m. to noon. If you’re feeling hungry after your morning adventure, there is a great cafe on site.

Take in the Views at the High Line

The High Line is an elevated public park space that was built on a historic freight rail line. The park runs from Hudson Yards to Chelsea and is unlike most parks, due to its elevated location and impressive views of the city. There are garden areas, seats to relax and sunbathe, art exhibits, and great food and drink vendors. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon while in NYC.
