A Night Out in the Chic Meatpacking District

The Meatpacking District is one of the New York neighborhoods that has done the fastest 180-degree turn. It went from being a utilitarian area filled with meatpacking warehouses, to a largely unused and abandoned part of the city, to one of the most chic neighborhoods in Manhattan. You can now walk the still cobblestoned streets lined with high-end shops and party in the warehouses turned clubs with some of New York’s elite. Here are the top venues you don’t want to miss on a night out.

Le Bain at the Standard

This sky-high club offers up killer views of Manhattan and a truly unique going out experience. The 18th floor venue has an indoor dance floor punctuated with a small heated pool, and an outdoor area open year-round and decorated with faux grass, waterbeds and a crepe station. This is the quintessential Meatpacking experience.

The High Line

This overground subway line has been restored and turned into a beautiful sky walkway and park, and has become the center of the Meatpacking District’s revitalization. In fact, the High Line hovers over or passes right through many of the big sights in this neighborhood. While the High Line is only open until around 10:00 p.m., it makes for a great evening stroll after dinner.

The Standard Biergarten

This massive beer garden, which plays a nice homage to its German roots, is always a lively place to grab a few beers and play some ping pong. All beers and brats are $9, making it one of the more reasonable places to drink in the neighborhood. Don’t worry — they have a full cocktail bar as well. The communal style of the tables also provide a great opportunity to meet some locals.

The Beach at the Dream Hotel

Every summer, the Dream Hotel downtown hosts the best rooftop beach party in town. With a 4,800 square foot pool and real sand, you can get a $65 day pass to while away the hours poolside up in the sky. There are indoor and outdoor cafes to address all of your food and beverage needs, and get your day drink on. And after a long day at the pool, feel free to wander into one of the two different clubs inside the Dream Hotel — The PHD Rooftop Lounge or The Electric Room.
