In the Navy
The annual “Fleet Week” celebration takes place this year from May 22 through May 28. This is a star-spangled celebration of the United States Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard. It starts with a parade of vessels up the Hudson River. The week also includes performances, demonstrations, and other interactive happenings. Be sure to stop on board the U.S.S. Intrepid to check out their Fleet Week tours and visit the museum.
Hoist a Glass
Down a few pints at one of the best events in May. The New York Beer Fest comes to Citi Field on May 4th. This beer event fills the Mets ballpark with a host of breweries from around the world. There will be 80 breweries pouring 200 different beers at the festival. Along with the beer comes plenty of food, games, and music. The second annual Wall Street Journal “The Future of Everything” warps into New York City on May 20–23. This engaging series of lectures and speakers discusses a range of futuristic hot topics. This year’s agenda includes artificial intelligence, self-driving cars, and big data, among others. A lab experience allows visitors to indulge in some of the coolest futuristic experiences. This year, visitors can create their own whiskey or make music on a virtual drum kit.
Enjoy the Works of The Bard
Shakespeare in the Park begins its season in May. This year, the first production of this fabled series is “Much Ado About Nothing.” The Tony Award-winning Kenny Leon directs the production. You can get tickets to the show at the Delacorte Theater by winning a digital lottery or an in-person lottery at the Public Theater. Tickets are also given out at select points throughout New York City. Be on the lookout for casting announcements and other ticket information as the date gets closer.
